Not . At . All. What I hoped it would be .....
Deep sighs.....
Let’s just say I hope I can get my money back !
Ms.Noble is a very talented writer, there’s no mistaking that but I can’t respect or enjoy a “romance “ where the H or the h,but the “Hero” in this case pushes the heroine away and keeps her at a distance and his romantic overtures or slim to none for almost 77% of the book ...
Seriously !!!
These two don’t begin together til 77% thru the book...
Lara is as sweet as a bag of sugar, but while I wouldn’t say she’s dumb, she’s about as clueless as she can be .....
Nicks push me /pull me , hot and cold games where he’s calling her “baby” one minute and hugging her close and being protective of her the next only to act moody and distant and push her away again...
WTH?!?!?
Beat the crap out of a guy to protect her one minute, hold in his arms the next while she cries about the anniversary of her Mom’s death, kissing her back at a wedding , and then the next taking off a week here and a week there like a wuss because of a woman he lost years ago....

Now losing the woman he loved once, works be hard to bare and make him skittish, but Nick spend the whole damn book doing that, not building a connection with Lara, soo when he’s finally decided to stop running at 77% of the book and is wanting to have her finally and tell her he loves her , it just feels off...
Really off.... fake... surreal..

And when they FINALLY do get together they are barely “together” 24 hours if that long before it all hits the fan....
Lara goes to take something to Nick, and while he’s where he said he’d be,things aren’t the way he’d said they were....
Lara jumps the wrong conclusion, but the poor clueless wonder couldn’t help it because Nick has told her 0 about his life or his friends or ANYTHING!
Lara doesn’t even know Emmy is married, she thinks she’s dating Nick .... like I said WTH?

I’m supposed to believe he’s in love with her when for 77% of the book he’s pushed her away and has barely let her know anything about him or his life ?
That coupled with the majority of the book in Lara’s p.o.v , it just doesn’t ring true.....
It felt kinda contrived and forced, even after things are worked out between them we still don’t get any true couple time to help cement them because not they’re constantly surrounded by others as they search for Lara’s stalker.... Lara’s stalker feels even more fake than the romance because he’s never made real only one run in ,in the entire book and that was brief and wasn’t even directed at Lara.... we never know his reasons or motivations... he’s like a barely flushed out ghost , he’s more of a plot device than anything else.... deep sigh..
And this writer seems better than that,or at least I want to think soo....
Personally I don’t know what to call this, there’s NO real suspense, the “stalker” has about a 0 threat level,he’s mostly forgotten most of the book, just like the romance to be honest ...
I got the 1st 3 books yesterday as a set,and while not what I expected I was still impressed, well written and imaginative they wore but honestly the imagination felt lost here...
This was more about Lara’s aimless life than anything else...
For the most part Lara was a sweet, hard working clueless conclusion jumping almost doormat ok but not very interesting and Nick was ok but not very decisive or very there...
I don’t know what the heck it was supposed to be but I not longer cared by the time it got there...
I’d say get the 1st 3 books in a set for .99 cents like I did if you can,go for a good story not necessarily the romance....

I can’t recommend this at all, the romance feels contrived and unrealistic and fake and has barely started at 77% before trouble breaks them apart ....

I. Want . My . Money . Back.

Gold Rush A romantic suspense novel Blackwood Security Book 4 edition by Elise Noble Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

So many layers to this book. You have two characters that are connected, but working through their own issues. Another great one in the Blackwood Security series. You can read them alone, but I suggest reading them from the beginning. This is a great author and I cannot wait to see what she writes next.
I'm not much of a romance reader, however the Blackwood series is in a class of its own. Sexy, heartwarming romance. Heartpounding action. These are all the standard for Blackwood books. Lara and Nick are probably the most humorous couple so far as well. Love them together!
This book was disappointing to me. I enjoyed the first three. Ms Noble needs to get some assistance in editing when the main character is from the US. The first three were told by the main character who was from the UK. We don't talk about posh people, posh houses, and posh parts of town. When we discuss a hospital stay, it is referred to as being in THE hospital. There were so many of these British idioms that I thought it took away from the story line which quite frankly was not like the first three including the personality of the male character as previously introduced.
Amazing book! I normally don't read romance stories preferring urban fantasy or pure suspense stories but Elise Noble's Pitch Black showed up on my "based on other books...." listing and, looking for something different, I gave it a try. Much to my amazement, I couldn't put it down! I devoured that book in a single night and quickly followed up with books 2 & 3 in the series. I ordered Gold Rush last night and once again found myself sucked into the world of Blackwood Securities. This is Nick's love story but it is still an action-packed intriguing read full of excitment, laugh-out-loud moments, and tender love scenes. Elise Noble's writing style makes her characters come alive and I find myself alternating cheering them on and groaning aloud at their foibles. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
Her father dubbed her Lucky Lara but she's had anything but good fortune. With the decision made to start fresh in a new town, she lands a dream job that at first glance seems more a nightmare. Will she find love or will her past catch up with her? One of my favorite parts of this book was a scene at the Buck's bar with the new drinks menu. My husband asked me what was so funny and I'll admit that I had to ask him what some of the drink names ment and that just made it funnier. Elise Noble has a knack for writing realistic plots and characters that engage you from the first page to the last❤
Lara and Nick are perfect for one another! I admit when the book started i was dubious because she had so much baggage to overcome, but she got past it to be the woman that Nick needed. Nick was that guy that you want to find his life mate, but with his past he doesn't think he's good for any woman regardless of how much he wants her. It was so great to read how they came together. I look forward to reading what Miss Noble has in store for us next.
An abusive ex-boyfriend. A mugging. A stalker. Getting fired (sacked as Elise would write) from a crappy job. Lara was down on her luck. So a randomly crazy move seemed like a perfect adventure.

Still broke, Lara lucked into a housekeeping job for one of Blackwood Security's team members, but the house / estate was straight out of a Hoarders episode. Can a lowly housekeeper become more to her wealthy, sexy boss?

A friend in a coma after an accident. A wedding back home. The ex-boyfriend reappears. The stalker reappears. I know what you're thinking... This is too much action for one book! And yet Elise keeps the action (and romance) coming chapter after chapter with full clarity.

Personally, I want to work for Blackwood Security! HEA and no cliffhanger, yet I can't wait to read the next book in this series, Gray is My Heart. Can be read as a standalone, yet I highly recommend reading the entire series in order for maximum enjoyment. Warning This series is addictive!
